The following are among the benefits and resources FLACADA provides to its members.
Website at www.flacada.org : The members-only portion of the website contains access FLACADA-exclusive webinars, editions of the newsletter, FLACADA Connections, and annual conference materials.
Newsletter: The Sunshine Times newsletter is published electronically, approximately four times each year. All issues include FLACADA news, state and regional professional development opportunities, and a variety of information related to academic advising. If you have provided an email address, you will receive the newsletter by email. Past issues of the newsletter are available exclusively for FLACADA members on our website at www.flacada.org. If you are interested in writing for the newsletter, please email newsletter@flacada.org.
FLACADA Connections: FLACADA members will also have access to FLACADA Connections, which are email listservs specifically geared towards academic advising across the state of Florida. These groups are a great medium to solicit advice from your peers on best practices and solutions to advising issues. We currently have four (4) groups dedicated to our members with topics including advisor training and development, distance learning advising, advising at two-year institutions, and advising issues in Florida. Annual Conference: The FLACADA Drive-In, a one-day advising conference, is hosted annually across the state of Florida to discuss ground-breaking practices, provide networking opportunities for academic advisors, and enhance professional development. In addition, FLACADA members will also have access to conference materials after each annual conference on the FLACADA website. Webinars: Throughout the year, FLACADA will host a series of webinars exclusively for the organization’s members. Webinar topics will vary to provide fresh insights, best practices, and successful strategies to various aspects of academic advising. If you would like to host a webinar, please contact membership@flacada.org.
Leadership & Steering Committee: The FLACADA Steering Committee is comprised of a group of academic advisors across the state of Florida. While some positions are appointed by the FLACADA chair, the majority of the Steering Committee positions are filled by election and active FLACADA members are eligible to serve on the committee. Steering Committee positions serve a two-year term and elections are held in the spring. If you are interested in serving on the Steering Committee, please review the organization’s bylaws at https://www.flacada.org/about-us/. Information regarding upcoming elections will be sent to the email provided to FLACADA and posted on the organization’s website.
